Introduction

Character Identification This custom building block figure represents the renowned United States Navy commander, Fleet Admiral Ernest J. King, during World War II. He is distinctly identifiable by his formal US Navy Service Dress Blue uniform, his officer’s combination cap, and his prominent gold flag officer sleeve insignia.

Detailed Character Description

(Utilizing detailed UV printing, this figure meticulously captures the strict, formal appearance of one of the highest-ranking naval officers in American history.)

  • Headgear & Face: The figure wears a traditional black naval officer’s combination cover (cap), featuring a printed gold chin strap and a detailed silver and gold US Navy eagle and shield crest on the front. The face print displays a highly stern, unsmiling expression with deep facial lines, accurately reflecting a seasoned and uncompromising commander.

  • Torso & Uniform: He is outfitted in the sharp, double-breasted Service Dress Blue uniform of the US Navy, showing printed gold buttons and the collar of a crisp white shirt with a black necktie peeking out at the neck. On his left breast, a pair of gold Naval Aviator wings is prominently displayed above a colorful stack of three printed medal ribbon racks.

  • Arms & Insignia: The black sleeves feature the distinct gold lacing of a high-ranking flag officer. The printing displays one thick gold band and three narrower bands beneath a gold star on each sleeve, depicting a senior admiral rank.

  • Legs & Footwear: The lower body consists of matching black dress trousers featuring a subtle printed vertical crease down the center of each leg. The base of the legs transitions into printed, polished black dress shoes.

Historical Background

Fleet Admiral Ernest Joseph King (1878–1956) was arguably the most important American naval commander of World War II. After the attack on Pearl Harbor, he was appointed Commander in Chief of the United States Fleet (COMINCH) and shortly after also became the Chief of Naval Operations (CNO)—the only person in history to hold both of these immense commands simultaneously. A qualified aviator, submariner, and surface warfare officer, King was fiercely intelligent, notoriously abrasive, and highly demanding. He was the chief architect of the US Navy’s victorious Pacific campaign against the Imperial Japanese Navy and successfully oversaw the Battle of the Atlantic against German U-boats. In December 1944, he became one of the first officers promoted to the newly created five-star rank of Fleet Admiral.
