Introduction
Medieval Axe Knight and Burgundian Pavise Pikeman Collection
A two-figure medieval collection pairing a red-surcoat axe knight with a blue-and-yellow Burgundian-inspired pavise pikeman. Each comes with its own pictured equipment, combining distinct costumes and complementary infantry silhouettes.
1. Two Handed Axe Knight
Character Identification
A knight-inspired foot fighter with a red surcoat, rounded gray helmet and long silver-gray axe.
Detailed Character Description
A mail-style hood and collar frame a stern, moustached face beneath the smooth helmet. White dotted motifs, brown fastening straps and a broad brown belt decorate the red surcoat, while mail-style sleeves and upper legs lead into black lower legs. The included long axe has a broad curved blade, rear projection, top spike and shaped lower end.
Historical / Thematic Context
The axe knight supplies the collection’s armored foot-combat theme. The bright red costume and tall shafted weapon create a clear contrast with the second figure’s blue-and-yellow clothing and shield.
2. Burgundian Pavise Pikeman
Character Identification
A Burgundian-inspired medieval infantry figure with a spear and wood-grain pavise-style shield.
Detailed Character Description
A nasal helmet and mail-style hood/collar surround the bearded face. Broad blue diagonal bands cross yellow clothing with red trim, a diamond-decorated brown belt and small fleur-de-lis details above dark boots. Its long orange-brown-shafted spear has a pointed gray head with side projections; the oblong shield has a central ridge, wood-grain face and gray studded rim.
Historical / Thematic Context
This member adds a Burgundian-inspired infantry theme and a broad defensive silhouette. The long spear and pavise arrangement distinguish it from the axe knight while the shared gray protective textures connect the pair.
Included: Two figures with their respective pictured helmets and mail-style head/neck coverings: one red axe knight with one axe, and one blue-and-yellow pavise pikeman with one spear and one shield.
Historical / Thematic Background
Medieval military scenes can show a range of foot soldiers rather than only mounted warriors. Shafted weapons, protective headgear and shields gave different fighters recognizable roles and outlines. This collection pairs a knight-inspired axe wielder with a Burgundian-inspired pikeman, creating a compact group in which weapon type and clothing immediately distinguish the two members.
The red knight’s long axe recalls the broad family of weapons used for striking and thrusting in foot combat. The pikeman’s spear and oblong pavise-style shield introduce a different equipment arrangement. Historical pavises varied in size and were used by several infantry roles; their broad fronts and central ridges remain especially recognizable features. In the collection, the wood-grain shield forms a visual counterweight to the long spear and bright blue-and-yellow costume.
Both designs share gray helmets and mail-style textures, but their expressions, clothing and weapons remain distinct. Red fastenings and white motifs contrast with diagonal blue bands, yellow panels and small decorative emblems. Together the figures suit a castle guard scene, an armed marching party or a medieval-themed display where differences in equipment make a small group more varied and expressive.
