Historical / Thematic Background
Augusta Ada King, Countess of Lovelace, is remembered for her work on Charles Babbage’s proposed Analytical Engine. She lived from 1815 to 1852, during a period of rapid industrial and scientific change. Her mathematical interests connected with discussions about the possibilities of mechanical calculation. The engine itself was a nineteenth-century design, rather than an electronic computer.
Lovelace translated a paper about the Analytical Engine and added extensive notes. These explored what such a machine might do and included an account of a procedure involving Bernoulli numbers. Her reputation therefore brings together mathematics, technical writing and the early history of computing. The significance of the work lies in its engagement with a proposed general calculating machine and its potential operations.
The figure presents Lovelace in a black Victorian-style dress, with dark hair and printed clothing details. Its long lower-body piece creates the dress silhouette. This is a stylized miniature interpretation rather than a scale portrait of a documented garment. The restrained costume makes it suitable for a historical science or writers display. One complete figure is supplied with the pictured hair and dress components; a computer, calculating engine, furniture and display scenery are not part of this individual product.
Included Contents
One Ada Lovelace figure with the pictured dark hair and black dress components.
