Historical / Thematic Background

Plotting maps were practical tools in the operations rooms of Britain’s wartime air-defence network. Reports from radar and other sources were brought together so controllers could follow aircraft movements and coordinate a response. Within the Dowding System, WAAF plotters used rods to move position indicators and information blocks across large maps. The shared visual picture helped controllers guide RAF pilots during the Battle of Britain.

This miniature kit translates the subject into a compact display accessory. A cream-coloured rectangular map carries a fine grid, black and red lines and large letter markings. The black pointer and transparent round marker with an aircraft silhouette give a figure physical objects to hold or arrange. Two small gray round supports complete the pictured kit. These parts can suggest a briefing, an updated plot or a moment of discussion in a control-room scene.

The map can stand beside the matching WAAF-style plotter or another suitable brick figure. Its lettered grid and line work provide visual interest in a small aviation display. The supplied artwork is treated as a stylised plotting-map design rather than a verified reproduction of a particular station’s chart or a record of one historic raid. This listing supplies the complete pictured accessory kit; a figure is available separately.
