Chinese Anti-Aircraft Artillery Squad Five Figures Republican Era – Custom Printed Brick Block Figure

This complete collection features a five-man squad of highly specialized National Revolutionary Army (NRA) soldiers from the World War II era, specifically designed to represent an anti-aircraft artillery battery.

1. The Spotter (Top Left Figure)

Character Identification This figure represents the squad’s Anti-Aircraft Spotter, identifiable by his chest-mounted observation equipment.

Detailed Character Description (Utilizing intricate 360-degree UV printing, this figure meticulously captures the essential reconnaissance gear of a Chinese air defense soldier.) The figure features a light nougat face with a stern expression and a small printed mark on the cheek. He wears a standard blue-grey military tunic featuring blue collar tabs with yellow insignia and sleeve patches. Strapped securely over his brown leather Y-strap suspenders is a pair of black observation binoculars, utilized for scanning the sky. A brown leather waist belt supports a row of square ammunition pouches across the lower torso. The legs feature matching blue-grey trousers wrapped in highly detailed dark grey puttees (leg wraps) that end in printed black shoes.

Historical Background

During the Second Sino-Japanese War, anti-aircraft spotters played a critical role in early warning networks around major Chinese cities. Equipped with binoculars, these soldiers were responsible for identifying the altitude, speed, and trajectory of incoming bomber formations, relaying vital firing coordinates to the artillery crews manning the heavy guns.

2. The Heavy Defender (Top Right Figure)

Character Identification This figure represents a Heavy Weapons Operator or battery defender, uniquely identifiable by his full eye protection and heavy ammunition loadout.

Detailed Character Description (This figure emphasizes the heavy combat loadout required to defend exposed artillery emplacements.) The figure’s face print is dominated by large, dark brown aviator-style protective goggles strapped securely over the eyes, with a printed face mask or chin strap wrapping around the lower jaw. He is outfitted in the standard blue-grey four-pocket tunic with branch-specific blue collar tabs. His tactical webbing consists of brown leather suspender straps supporting an extensive network of multiple rows of square ammunition pouches arrayed across the chest and waist. The lower body matches the squad with blue-grey trousers, dark grey puttees, and black shoes.

Historical Background

Anti-aircraft batteries were highly valuable targets and required dedicated infantry defense against ground assaults or low-flying strafing runs. Soldiers tasked with this defense carried maximum ammunition loads. The protective goggles shielded their eyes from blinding muzzle flashes, concussive smoke, and hazardous falling debris created by localized aerial bombardments.

3. The Gun Operator (Bottom Left Figure)

Character Identification This figure represents a dedicated Artillery Crank Operator, distinguished by his protective goggles and highly streamlined combat webbing.

Detailed Character Description (This figure captures the unencumbered, highly mobile uniform of an artilleryman physically operating the heavy cannons.) He wears the large protective goggles over his eyes alongside a printed chin strap. Worn over his blue-grey military tunic is a lightweight webbing setup consisting only of brown leather straps crossing in an “X” pattern over the chest, securing a simple waist belt. Notably, this figure carries no front ammunition pouches, providing a clean profile. He wears standard blue-grey trousers and dark grey puttees.

Historical Background

Soldiers who physically manned the heavy anti-aircraft cannons required absolute upper-body mobility to operate hand-cranks for elevation and traverse. They frequently wore streamlined webbing with simple crossed suspender straps, entirely omitting bulky ammunition pouches that would restrict their movement while tracking fast-moving aircraft.

4. The Battery Signaler (Bottom Middle Figure)

Character Identification This figure represents a specialized Battery Signaling Officer, instantly identifiable by his shouting expression, neck-worn goggles, and communication flags.

Detailed Character Description (This figure meticulously captures the unique visual communication gear of a Chinese air defense artillery commander.) The figure features a fierce, yelling expression, depicting a soldier calling out targets. A pair of protective goggles with blue and yellow tinted lenses hangs loosely around his neck. Over his blue-grey tunic, he wears crossed leather suspender straps and a waist belt with ammunition pouches. Tucked behind his belt on the left side are two distinct signal flags—one red and one white. He is equipped with standard blue-grey trousers and puttees.

Historical Background

Because the deafening roar of continuous anti-aircraft fire made verbal commands impossible to hear, battery commanders relied heavily on visual signal flags (typically red and white) to coordinate firing solutions, direct gun elevations, and issue cease-fire orders across the gun line. The goggles, worn around the neck when not actively firing, provided necessary eye protection from debris.

5. The Artillery Loader (Bottom Right Figure)

Character Identification This figure represents a Lightweight Artilleryman or loader, identifiable by his calm expression, neck-worn goggles, and minimalist webbing.

Detailed Character Description (This figure depicts a frontline artillery soldier ready for action with an ultra-light combat loadout.) The figure has a calm, focused face print with a printed chin strap outlining the jaw. Like the signaler, his protective goggles rest loosely around his neck. He wears the standard blue-grey military tunic with printed blue and yellow collar tabs. His tactical webbing is completely streamlined, featuring only crossed brown leather suspender straps and a matching waist belt, entirely free of ammunition pouches. The figure is finished with blue-grey trousers, dark grey puttees, and printed black shoes.

Historical Background

Loaders and general artillery crewmen needed to lift and maneuver heavy anti-aircraft shells quickly. Bulky chest pouches would severely impede their ability to perform their duties. This streamlined uniform accurately reflects the pragmatic approach to outfitting heavy artillery crews during the Republican Era, ensuring maximum efficiency and mobility on the gun line.
