Detailed Character Identification, Description, and Historical Background
Character Identification
An unnamed Chinese armored-soldier themed figure in an olive green uniform, distinguished by crossing straps and a wide brown ammunition-pouch band.
Detailed Character Description
The bare head has angled eyebrows, highlighted eyes, scattered stubble-like marks and a firm mouth. The olive green tunic shows outlined chest pockets, gold-colored collar panels, small buttons and a rectangular chest marking. Dark brown straps cross the torso above a wide band of brown ammunition-pouch artwork with pale fasteners. A small shield-shaped sleeve marking adds contrast. The matching trousers have large pocket outlines and layered lower-leg wrap artwork above black shoes with pale highlights. Both hands are empty. The straps, pouch band and uniform markings are printed artwork; the figure has no separate body armor piece.
Historical / Thematic Background
The armored-soldier theme belongs to the broader development of mechanized forces in Republican China. An early tank detachment was organized at Nanjing in 1929 after the acquisition of eighteen small British-built vehicles. During the following decade, armored organization expanded and training, repair and supply arrangements became increasingly important to the operation of these specialized forces.
Mechanization required more than the possession of a vehicle. Official organizational histories show tank units associated with repair workshops and later reorganized to improve technical instruction and maintenance support. This provides a useful historical context for a soldier themed around armored service: the subject includes the people and support arrangements behind mechanized warfare as well as the machines themselves.
This miniature expresses its soldier theme through an olive tunic, crossing strap artwork, a prominent brown ammunition-pouch band and wrapped lower legs. The stubble-like facial printing and firm expression distinguish it from the two bespectacled collection members. Its equipment creates a practical field-service appearance for a period display. The figure represents a general armored-soldier theme; the pictured design does not establish a particular crew position, vehicle model or named formation.
