Detailed Character Identification, Description, and Historical Background
Character Identification
An unnamed Chinese Eighth Route Army infantryman themed figure, distinguished by printed ammunition-pouch bands across a sand-blue uniform.
Detailed Character Description
The bare head has dark eyebrows, large eye highlights, a firm mouth and pale reddish facial-line details. The sand-blue tunic shows pocket flaps, seam artwork and a dark neck fastening. Gray crossed straps sit beneath a diagonal ammunition-pouch band, with another row of pouch motifs across the waist. Pale-edged shoulder straps and a blue-and-white sleeve-patch design add contrast. The trousers continue the sand-blue color above pale gray lower-leg wraps and black shoe artwork with white curved highlights. Both hands are empty. The straps and ammunition equipment are printed artwork on the figure.
Historical / Thematic Background
The Eighth Route Army was formed in August 1937 when major Chinese Red Army forces were reorganized during renewed cooperation between the Communists and Nationalists against Japan. It became part of the wartime National Revolutionary Army framework while remaining under Communist leadership. The formation is closely associated with the Chinese war against Japan and the wider World War II period.
Its units moved into North China and developed a combination of field operations, guerrilla warfare and support networks in areas behind Japanese lines. Marching, carrying supplies and maintaining contact between dispersed forces were important parts of that military setting. Infantry therefore provides a useful subject for understanding the ordinary field-soldier side of the period, beyond portraits of senior commanders.
This miniature puts that infantry theme into its equipment artwork. The diagonal bandolier and waist pouches give the front a strong ammunition-carrying appearance, while the wrapped lower legs and simple pocketed tunic emphasize practical field clothing. The blue-and-white sleeve patch reinforces the military identity without assigning this unnamed figure to a particular division. Its facial lines and steady expression give it an individual character within a small wartime display.
