Character Identification
An unnamed Chinese Nationalist soldier themed figure in an olive-green uniform, distinguished by a brown satchel design, crossed straps and an open-mouthed expression.
Detailed Character Description
The bare head has dark eyebrows, a faint pink forehead mark and an open mouth with a small white tooth detail. An olive-green pocketed tunic carries brown crossed-strap artwork, light-colored buckle details and a broad brown belt with a gold-colored buckle. A brown satchel or pouch is depicted at the front, with an outlined flap, pale fastener and dotted edge details. A small rectangular chest-label design, blue-and-white circular emblem and sleeve marking complete the uniform artwork. Matching trousers continue the fold details above horizontal lower-leg wrap bands and black shoe artwork. Both hands are empty.
Historical / Thematic Background
The National Revolutionary Army grew within the Nationalist movement based in southern China. Guangdong and Guangxi forces formed an important foundation for the Northern Expedition launched in 1926. Its advance and the political changes of 1927–1928 reshaped the military landscape of Republican China. Field soldiers were part of a force that was expanding across regions while bringing together different military traditions and sources of equipment.
Uniform reform sought a more recognizable appearance across that varied army. Regulations addressed clothing styles, materials and colors, with practical wear central to field use. The military museum’s collection includes Republican-era military clothing, cloth shoes and leg wraps, reflecting the importance of ordinary service dress alongside ceremonial uniforms. This figure combines the pocketed-tunic silhouette with a belt, crossing straps and wrapped-leg artwork.
The brown satchel motif emphasizes the carrying-kit side of that appearance. Its flap, fastener and edge details give the front a different balance from the companion’s binocular design. The open-mouthed expression makes the soldier useful as an active character in a small group scene: on a march, at a roadside halt or beside a field briefing. Matching olive clothing keeps the pair visually coherent.
