Introduction
This two-figure custom printed brick block collection pairs a French 638th Infantry Regiment field-tunic soldier with a greatcoat soldier. Both wear dark helmets with contrasting printed markings, while their faces, collars, equipment artwork and lower-leg treatments remain distinct. The collection contains one of each pictured figure with its worn headgear.
Historical / Thematic Background
The 638th Infantry Regiment was the Wehrmacht formation associated with the LVF, the French volunteer legion created by collaborationist movements in 1941. Its members served Germany on the Eastern Front, wearing German military clothing with French national identifiers. The pair presents two clothing interpretations of that particular wartime formation.
The field-tunic soldier has outlined breast pockets, pale collar details and lighter gaiter printing. The greatcoat soldier uses broad green collar points, paired button rows, a hooded face and darker tall footwear. These differences allow the collection to compare an ordinary tunic theme with a heavier cold-weather appearance without reducing the two members to identical figures.
The regiment entered combat near Moscow in December 1941 and was subsequently employed in anti-partisan operations. Its history belongs to the wider record of military collaboration under German occupation. The 638th designation refers to Wehrmacht service; the later transfer of surviving volunteers to Waffen-SS formations in 1944 was a separate stage.
Together, the figures can support an Eastern Front uniform comparison or a historically contextualized display about French volunteers in German service. Their tricolor details and shared gray palette connect the pair, while the separate faces and equipment printing preserve each member’s identity. The collection’s subject includes the political choices of occupation and the consequences of collaboration as well as differences in military dress.

2. French 638th Infantry Regiment Greatcoat Soldier WWII
Character Identification
This custom printed brick block figure portrays an unnamed French 638th Infantry Regiment soldier in a gray greatcoat theme. A dark hood around the printed face, green collar, double-row coat buttons and muted glove-colored hands distinguish it from the field-tunic soldier.
Detailed Character Description
- Headgear & Face: A dark helmet bears gold-brown weathered-looking edges, a white German eagle-and-swastika motif and a French tricolor on its opposite side. A dark hood frames the pale face, which has dark eyes, red cheek marks and a downturned mouth.
- Torso & Greatcoat: The gray coat has two rows of pale buttons, broad dark green collar points, dark vertical straps with pale buckle outlines and a diagonal yellow-brown printed strap.
- Printed Equipment: Black ammunition pouches and a pale round buckle span the waist. The muted light-olive hands suggest gloves; no loose weapon or handheld item appears in any view.
- Rear Printing: The rear carries black straps, pale hardware shapes and orange-brown fastening details above printed green and yellow equipment at the waist. A French tricolor shield is visible on the upper arm.
- Legs & Footwear: Gray trouser folds lead into tall black footwear with pale outlines across the fronts, sides and toes. The taller dark lower-leg treatment contrasts with the tunic figure’s lighter gaiter print.
- Pictured Headgear: The full figure is presented with the dark helmet pictured over the hood. All alternate poses and front/rear views depict this one design.
Historical / Thematic Background
The greatcoat member provides a winter-clothing interpretation within the same regiment. Its covered face, green collar and glove-colored hands create a separate visual role beside the shorter tunic.
