German Army (Heer) Medic (Sanitäter) with the rank of Obergefreiter from the World War II – Custom Printed Brick Block Figure

This image displays a toy minifigure representing a German Army (Heer) Medic (Sanitäter) with the rank of Obergefreiter from the World War II era.

The figure is depicted in a standard field grey (Feldgrau) combat uniform and wears an M43 Field Cap (Einheitsfeldmütze) with the Wehrmacht eagle and national cockade insignia.

His specific rank and role are clearly indicated by the insignia:

• Rank Insignia: On his left sleeve is the double chevron (Doppelwinkel), which denotes the senior enlisted rank of Obergefreiter.
• Medical Branch Insignia: On his right sleeve is a circular patch featuring the Rod of Asclepius (a serpent coiled around a staff), the symbol for the Medical Branch (Sanitätsdienst).

He is carrying a brown medical aid kit marked with a white cross (a common German military medical marking, distinct from the international Red Cross symbol). The figure’s face is printed with a grim expression and minor injuries, suggesting battlefield conditions.

Historical Background: An Obergefreiter was an experienced soldier, equivalent to a senior private or lance corporal, but not yet a Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO). A Sanitäter (medic) holding this rank would be a seasoned frontline medical assistant, responsible for providing immediate first aid to wounded soldiers directly on the battlefield, often under heavy fire. They were essential personnel for maintaining the fighting strength of infantry units, and their work was exceptionally dangerous.
