This minifigure represents an Oberleutnant zur See, a rank equivalent to a First Lieutenant, serving in the German Kriegsmarine (Navy) during the World War II era. His identity is explicitly confirmed by the text at the bottom of the image.
He is a generic character representing a junior officer. The medals printed on his uniform, especially the U-boat War Badge, strongly suggest he serves in the formidable German submarine force. Officers of this rank often held crucial command positions on U-boats, such as the First Watch Officer, who was second-in-command to the Captain.
The items in the picture consist of the detailed minifigure and his sidearm:
- The toy minifigure is wearing the dark blue, double-breasted service dress uniform of a Kriegsmarine officer.
- His headgear is a white-topped officer’s visor cap with the gold-colored national eagle and cockade insignia of the navy. The white top was typically worn with the summer dress uniform.
- His tunic is highly decorated with printed rank stripes on the lower sleeves and medals on his chest, including the Iron Cross First Class and the U-boat War Badge.
- His weapon accessory is a grey pistol, representing a standard German officer’s sidearm from the period, such as a Luger P08.
