Detailed Character Identification, Description, and Historical Background
Character Identification
An unnamed Chinese Republican-era machine-gunner character. The supplier identifies this member by its equipment role, while the olive uniform and chest-and-arm marking system support a broad National Revolutionary Army theme.
Detailed Character Description
The torso combines an olive pointed collar, a small chest identification detail, crossing shoulder straps and a row of rounded olive-brown pouch designs at the waist. The face has strong slanting eyebrows, an open worried mouth, small red marks and a printed chinstrap fastened beneath the chin. Olive shorts, exposed-knee-colored bands and wrapped puttees lead into dark footwear with red-and-white weathered-looking print. A separate green steel-helmet-shaped toy piece accompanies the uncovered head. The dark sleeve patch keeps its original light emblem.
Includes one complete printed brick figure and one loose green helmet. The straps, pouches and other flat equipment details are printed on the figure. No loose firearm or scenery is included.
Historical / Thematic Background
The National Government’s army uniform regulations promulgated in January 1936 describe identification labels showing a soldier’s affiliation, rank, duty and name. Their illustrated appendix includes divided rectangular chest-label layouts with a narrow rank strip. The small label printed on this toy’s tunic follows that period visual language, supporting its Chinese Republican-era military theme.
A documented photograph of a Nationalist soldier in Shanghai in 1937 also shows the German-style M1935 steel helmet used by Chinese troops. The separate green toy helmet, field tunic and wrapped lower legs fit that wider 1930s–1940s setting. These comparisons support a uniform-theme interpretation; the miniature does not establish a particular battlefield, issue year or named soldier.
The rounded pouch row is the main visual distinction of this machine-gunner design. It suggests the carrying arrangements used to differentiate infantry equipment roles in a historical toy group, while keeping the individual character recognizable without a loose gun in its hands.
The supplier calls this series “2D,” but a precise division or other numbered unit has not been independently established. The sleeve emblem is retained as part of the original print without expanding that label into a historical unit claim. The figure suits a Chinese Republican-era infantry display, where its actual uniform, expression and printed carrying equipment can be compared with the other designs.
